Cisco: Global Search

I was onboarded into this project at a later stage in its development. Other team members here I hadn’t worked with before needed help getting this project space to a more defined “finish line” and moving it into a more productive direction. I was excited to be a part of this project as I found the content of it interesting and a complex problem to help solve with the rest of the team.

Summary

Project Initiation

  • Led and created user flows for this new feature.

  • Conducted reviews of current designs to fine-tune the user experience.

  • Ensured consistency in user experiences across platform environments.

  • Was chosen to lead this feature due to my ability to ensure the project reached its end goal of going through a second session of user interviews.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Worked closely with design managers and fellow designers.

  • Collaboration led to positive project outcomes such as enhancements made to the information architecture displayed to users.

Feedback and Insights

  • Provided feedback on current redesigns and existing search experience.

  • Leveraged previous user research findings to inform my decision-making.

Design Iterations and Information Architecture

  • Created design iterations

  • Facilitated team collaboration through calls and Figma comments.

  • Explored searchable terms and information items for search results.

User Research Engagement

  • Collaborated with the research team.

  • Gathered feedback from user researchers on built prototypes and iterated them based on that feedback.

  • Led sync calls to review Figma prototypes I built for research sessions with our user base.

This was a really interesting space to be a part of and I was excited to get hands-on with it. There were a couple of design managers and a fellow designer involved as well so the collaboration between us all happened a lot and I think the project got to a positive space as a result of that.

As stated above, I was brought in to help give feedback and insight as to how the search experience could be further enhanced based on what I saw in the current iteration of re-designs as well as what I saw from the currently implemented user search experience. I was also fortunate that previous user research had been completed and compiled, so I reached out to our research to get those documents and presentations. With all this in mind, I saw key points that I felt could be improved upon in this search experience.

I created iterations of designs and from there facilitated team collaboration and feedback through calls I created and via Figma comments when calls couldn’t be had due to some team member's busy schedules.

We also looked at the information architecture of our search experience (between current designs, what was implemented, and newly proposed designs by me). That took the shape of what terms were searchable. What items of information we would include on cards in the search results view designs. Once things started to feel more concrete and our design team felt we all had a better understanding of what we were looking to accomplish we reached out to our user research team to help us.

We had sync calls with the research team so they could understand what we were looking to get insights on from our user base and ask any questions that may come up from any of the involved team members. From here, our researcher created a plan of action and scheduled out interviews using the prototypes I had built in Figma.
